House of the Rising Sun- The Animals

Animals - The House Of The Rising Sun

This is a fun song to play and it is relatively easy.  This song utilizes arpeggios.  An arpeggio is when the notes of a chord are picked individually.  After a few verses, begin to strum the chords, this will give the same chords a different feel.

There is a house in New Orleans,
They call it Rising Sun.
And it`s been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And God, I know I`m one.
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gambling man
Down in New Orleans.

And the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and a trunk.
And the only time he is satisfied
Is when he`s down and drunk.

So mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of a Rising sun.

Well I`ve got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train.
I'm going back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain.

There is a house in New Orleans,
They call it Rising Sun.
And it`s been the ruin of many a poor boy,
And God, I know I`m one.

A Blues Scale

    |--------------------------5-8--|
    |----------------------5-8------|
    |----------------5-7-8----------|
    |------------5-7----------------|
    |------5-6-7--------------------|
    |--5-8--------------------------|
The blues scale is almost the same as the pentatonic scale.
The difference is the D#, which is played on the 6th fret
of the A string and on the 8th fret of the G string.

Note about scales

The scales I have posted are shown first in open position, then in at least two other positions on the fretboard.  There are many different fingering patterns for all scales.  I have posted the ones that I use the most and that I think are the most commonly used.
